you today we're talking to Luke today and particularly you're thanking him for coming on to talk to us about coaching I look now look you've been going in Christ community West for three years now is that right the church plant yep it oh yeah bit over three years now and just give us a bit of a snapshot of kirinda which is the area that you're you plan to be yes kirinda cleaners probably middle-upper class reasonably

[0:39]
excellent sort of suburb lots of really established churches so we initially went there because they weren't a great deal of evangelical churches in the area at all they tend to be all liberal liberal I sort of established churches so we went it which you know has its positives and it's negative you you meet people it's like well I'm Anglican or I'm Lutheran right Catholic the run you know I think or whatever there's being in for the

[1:09]
last needed they get a little bit of that but with all six of rounded by suburbs is a very different character so we have Sarah and I which are a little more multicultural a lot lower class and then right next to each other and so that gives a fair degree of diversity to the church okay then we'll you've been planning for three years we said just it's a south western suburb of Brisbane just so I get the geography right for everyone oh yeah about 11 kilometers not wet no

[1:41]
worries okay so when did you first start getting coached by Geneva was it from the beginning or did we come in a little later yes there's probably about maybe about a year I think maybe not quite a hearing so we had yeah I think planted by about six months by the time the first Geneva multiply equivalent events came and I went along for that process and so probably a little bit after that I met Mikey in he after he could be

[2:14]
my coach at federal then went from there now Mikey Lynch is a director of Geneva pushing I guess you know your association with Geneva push at that point was I guess positive but limited you know you didn't really know a huge amount about it was there any apprehension about what this coaching might mean or do was it all just universally positive um I think it was recently positive so I heard things on the grapevine I was excited about church planting as you would hope to be if you're about to

[2:45]
plant church and so you know any any sort of support or help that was out there I was kind of keen to be a part of and and to get what I could whatever help I can get out there so you know it's reasonably excited I didn't have any expectations like I was a blank slate in terms of what what it's gonna look like on and so I had no idea and what did it look like so Mikey we can we had a Skype call with Mikey he's down in Tasmania so he

[3:16]
couldn't see face to face or so we generally spy as best you can get probably for about an hour and a half once a month so I mean I guess initially we were getting to know each other he was getting to know what I was doing we had up and running getting into the familiarization along those lines and then I guess overtime as we build trust amongst one another he would give insight I would ask questions about Craig this is happening and he's got any

[3:49]
thoughts on that and I can give his insider thoughts or ideas about a certain area or he would you know I asked me where am I going okay what does that look like just asking questions about what I needed to think about to get where I needed to go had plans in place for some of those things yeah there's nothing casual about an hour and a half conversation is there I mean that sounds like that's quite intense like you've obviously you're obviously covering ground or covering ground and real detail it's not just a chat yeah so

[4:21]
I guess we yeah talk through I'm quite a number of things in that time so yeah there's a little bit of chitchat obviously and yes I get you know the time seems to go by reasonably quickly like it I never sat there thinking boy this is intense and we've been at this first you know I generally felt quite relaxed relational let's talk about what's happening here how's that been going through the lifetime that we chatted you were going to do this have you done that what happened what you

[4:52]
know it's just reporting back telling what's happening the roadblocks that are in the way of some of those things and so just an ongoing really conversation have known to learn how to use it helped me along the way yeah secrecy you say it's helped you along the way I guess coaching is exactly that it's something trying to live somebody else up to it's a sustained in the work how did you feel what did you feel you actually got out of it what are the things we look back now and you go gosh this this made a difference for me in these areas what would you say yeah um

[5:24]
it probably depends on the coach a little bit so no Mikey is great with this ideas so fine if I found myself at a roadblock in an area or just stuck I kind of like it particularly helpful to just reinvigorate can be thinking about some things and have you thought about this have you thought about that know your wonder this thing you should go and do this I think it is trying this so have you thought about that and so generally

[5:55]
what I found walking out of my time is my key was that I had a list of six or seven ideas that kind of I could then work on so I could go No you know I didn't do all those things but some of them I like it okay I hadn't thought about that that's a great idea I need to shoot that a little bit more and then we may need to follow up on that when we next challenge how now Yubel is that sort of ongoing checking if you like for a church planner I mean many church phones talk to us about being I guess somewhat

[6:25]
isolated in their work how valuable is that connection um well I would say I would say I mean I think it I could imagine not having something like that but I was in a privileged position of having a couple of people in my life to help out in nice ways and so I think I really felt that sense of isolation that maybe others have have had but I would say it's invaluable like it it was extremely

[6:55]
helpful to have ideas coming in being push having some accountability as well with some of that with what you're doing months months weeks a week and having someone in your corner is what do you need obviously know the coach is there to to encourage know about help you along say yeah but all of those reasons I would hate the prospect and you know okay see you in four years or just a report every now and then or that would

[7:26]
just be debilitating and terrible and Oh mate thanks very much for sharing this it sounds like you've gone from from a point one in which you're actually sort of breaking ground to now feeling sustained you know in the process of doing it and we're just really glad to hear that we hope also that people are watching just get a same sort of sense of the value of coaching and what they can actually mean for Australian church planners so mother might take care

[7:57]
