hi I'm huge I'm actually the leading wish faster GracePoint Presbyterian Church and we've been around for about 12 years we planted 12 years ago and really our ministry is all about loving Jesus loving each other around the Lord Jesus the gospel and loving our city now well how important do you think church planning is as a strategy on the Christian scene in Australia I think it's absolutely essential I think you know when churches began really well in terms of I'm talking about Asian churches in particular currently there
[0:31]
about a hundred Asian or Chinese churches in the city of Sydney and when they began really they began as a church planting movement but that's died down really over the years as churches have become established and so I think it's absolutely essential especially if you want to reach the nation's ethnic Asian groups in our city there what particularly do you think of the big challenges say for the Asian churches thing I think the big challenge for the Asian church scene finding people who have a heart for church planning because currently I think people don't see the need and when you don't see the need
[1:01]
especially when you see the sheer number of Asian churches you think there's no need to church plan so like I said in the city of Sydney and I can only speak for Sydney there's a hundred Chinese churches but they're two hundred ninety thousand Asians in our city or Chinese speakers in our city and so even even if you could convert all two hundred nine thousand you couldn't fit them in a hundred churches at any given Sunday and so you know with with the latest census hopefully the results will come out soon you're going to discover there's a lot more under each agents in our city and then we actually realize and so we need to be planting more churches to reach them and will huge houses the Geneva
[1:33]
push fit into your idea of sort of reaching that goal yeah I think Geneva exists really for the purpose of mobilization and so it doesn't matter whether you're Anglican or Baptists or independent or Presbyterian really the whole idea is to find young men who have a heart really for the gospel in our city and at present I think one of these Janee was seeking to do is to to find people not just whoever heart for the Anglicans or the presbyterian for also five people whoever hired to do ethnic ministry in our city not just reaching
[2:05]
Chinese speakers but also Koreans as well as a massive Korean population and I what people don't realise there are pockets of unreached people groups in our city and churches are not being planted out give you an example we church out of a place called Lidcombe right next to us it's Alban and Alban is a community really for the last 15 20 years really devoid of Christian presence the traditional churches have all closed down and all you find in those communities right now either ethnic-specific churches or dying Anglo
[2:39]
churches and so we need churches planted there we have to reach those new Muslim communities there which are really devoid of the gospel now today we're speaking you at the 2012 coaching conference how does coaching fit in I mean the Geneva pushes made a big focus of it but what are your hopes for coaching as far as church planners are concern yeah I'm actually hoping that true this conference here with with a couple of these these church planners here myself here what we hope to do is we hope to be able to help church planters future church planters I think church planting is hard work the the Rome Hank notion of church
[3:10]
planting I don't think exists speak to any church planters wife is gonna realize that and so what we want to do is we want to ask coaches create sustainability we want to create our multiplication and so we don't just want to sustain and help church plants plant churches we want to actually coach church planters to be church planters who will actually grow church planting churches so that we multiply the work of church planting for the gospel in our city and our nation you've gone through the entire church planning experience did you have coaches if so how valuable
[3:41]
were they be we planted our church in in 1999 and it was a very very difficult experience it was it was two years of really hard work it had a huge emotional impact in our family and I think in 1999 there was no us there was no one to look to we didn't know anyone else was church-planting there wasn't much literature out there and we just fumbled our way along and I think we were only here where we are because God's been gracious to us and I said to one of the guys here I think in retrospect had had I had someone who
[4:12]
could walk with me someone I could talk to to unpack things about church planting it would be incredibly helpful and so you know for me as I fumbled my way along and my hope certainly is for our church planters that my hope for them really is that they won't go to what I went through
