Australia: Sun, sport, surf … and a deep spiritual need

When the world thinks of Australia, they picture beaches, backyard cook-ups and wide-open skies. A laid-back nation with endless coastline, bustling cities, and the rugged outback.

But behind the beauty lies a spiritual desert. Churches are small (often less then 60 people) and most Australians live without gospel witness. “No religion” is now the largest group in the nation — 39% of the population.

And yet — praise God — new life is springing up.

We want to invite you to join us in reaching Australia for Christ.

Why invest in Australian churches?

Australia is the West's proving ground.

While the US church is only beginning to navigate the challenges of a post-Christian culture, Australia is already 10–20 years further down that road. Churches here have learned — often the hard way — how to make disciples, plant churches, and reach people who have no memory of, or interest in, the gospel. That hard-won experience is transferable, and it's available to you.

When US church leaders invest in gospel ministry here, they're not just supporting work on the other side of the world. They're gaining a window into what faithful, fruitful ministry looks like in a culture that looks a lot like where America is heading. This is a front-row seat to what God is doing to reclaim the secular West — and an invitation to be part of it before the same challenges fully arrive on your doorstep.

You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth. — Acts 1:8

A rare moment

By the grace of God, the Australian church is in a rare moment of unity. Churches are working together across denominations to strengthen one another, to support each other to help reach more people for Christ. And God is using our network to help facilitate that.

We are also in a season of deep spiritual need and change. The soil is ready and the gospel is taking root. The window is open now — a unique moment for gospel growth in Australia.

We want to invite you to step into this season with us. Let's start a conversation on your next steps, for joining in what God is doing through the Reach Australia network.

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. — Luke 10:2

Be a part of stories of new life

Here are stories of multiplication in our network. Under God, churches revitalised, new plants taking root, and leaders working together to see gospel saturation.
From decline to life

Tamborine Mountain is a beautiful area known for its rainforests and food, but the church had been in decline. God used Reach Australia to help equip their senior pastor to lead fresh change. A church on the decline was reborn.

Attendance has grown from 100 to 250. Join us in celebrating 18 new believers in the past year.

“In 18 months, 18 people have come to faith — more than the previous 18 years combined.”
A fresh church plant

We walked alongside Tim and Deb, providing training and support, as they made the big decision to launch and lead a new church later in life. In their 50s, Tim and Deb planted a new church in Coffs Harbour, and it has already grown to 210 people.

Families are coming who have never been part of a church before, and 17 new believers have recently professed faith.

“It's so exciting to see our family growing and seeing more people on the coast come to know Jesus”
A multiplying network

In 2000, Trinity Church Adelaide was one church in the CBD. Since then, God has graciously enabled them to start 13 new churches across the city, each reaching new communities with the gospel.

And their story is one of many, as churches grasp the importance of multiplication and reorient their ministry around reaching more people.

“The network is deeply supportive. Full of wisdom and eager to share it."

"During our launch weeks, two people came to faith in Christ — unchurched people brought from death to life. That’s been a great encouragement as we’ve begun.

We weren’t planning to run any courses this year, but there was enough interest that we started our first LIFE series (our evangelistic course) in a lounge room. Five seekers attended. Please pray that they would also repent and believe.

We’re already hitting capacity in our venue and are praying for a new location. God has provided space at the PCYC, right in the heart of an underprivileged part of the city, and it’s embedded us in the local community at just the right time.

The people walking through the doors are unchurched and de-churched — not transfers from other churches. It’s what we prayed for, and so far, God has been kind."

- Nathan Milham, Associate Pastor. Orange Evangelical Church (City) launched in 2025.

Trusted. Accountable. Multiplying impact.

We long to see thousands of healthy, evangelistic, multiplying churches across Australia. In the past year alone, our network has helped plant 17 new churches and trained 161 church leaders.

We’re praying to see the number of Christians regularly attending church in Australia double by 2035. In a church of 100, instead of one person leaving each year, five people become part of the church family.
Historically, on average 45% of new churches reached a point of sustainability to survive long term. Within our network, that increases to 89.6%.

By the grace of God, on average, churches that complete Reach Australia programs
grow 2.4× faster and see 2× more professions of faith.

Starting new churches

New churches are five times more likely to reach people who don't yet follow Jesus or haven't been to church in years.

We're aiming to help plant 300 new churches by 2030.

Strengthening existing churches

Healthy churches don't happen by accident. They need leaders who can faithfully teach the Bible, care for people, and lead with courage and skills.

Our goal is to develop 750 church leaders by 2030.

How the Reach Australia Network works

Reach Australia is a national movement committed to seeing thousands of healthy, evangelistic, multiplying churches across our nation.
Planting new churches

We identify and train planters and planting couples to launch healthy, evangelistic churches in communities with little or no gospel presence.

Every new church is a lighthouse in a place that was once dark.

Developing leaders

Pastors are the key vehicle God uses for growth and change. That’s why we invest deeply in leadership development — equipping leaders with clarity, conviction, and courage.

Through training, peer cohorts, and coaching, pastors are raising up healthier, more evangelistic churches.

Building networks

We connect pastors across regions and denominations, fostering collaboration, shared learning, and accountability.

Today more than 450 churches are linked together, multiplying impact nationwide.
