Session 1: Just scratching the surface
10:45 am – 12:45 pm

Multiply Session 1

This year we’re celebrating 10 years and 100 churches planted across the Geneva Push network. There’s lots to give thanks for in this, but we know as well that we’ve only just scratched the surface in seeing Australia reached with the Gospel. In the first session of Multiply 2020, we’re going to:

  1. Hear from Al Stewart about the state of the network and church planting across Australia as well as what’s next for Geneva Push.
  2. Meet our newly launched and newly launching church planters for 2019/20 and pray for them and the people they’re trying to reach.
  3. Hear from Andrew Heard on the strengths and challenges of what’s happening here in Australia in light of trends across the globe.

As we meet across the day, we’ll be praying for the next 150 church planting planters, couples and teams to be raised up in order to evangelise those churches into existence across Australia over the next 10 years.

Speakers:

Al Stewart

Al has been in Christian ministry for 30 years, including setting up congregations in Mt Druitt, the eastern suburbs of Sydney and the Wollongong region. Al was also involved in commencing the City Bible Forum with ECOM in 2001 and was the chairman of the Katoomba Christian Convention from 2005-2014. He also served as a bishop and the director of Evangelism Ministries with the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church. He is currently the National Director of FIEC. He is married to Kathy and they have 4 grown children.

Andrew Heard

Andrew has been involved in Christian ministry for over 25 years. In 1996, together with his wife Cathie established a new church on the Central Coast of NSW called Central Coast Evangelical Church (now EV Church). In 2005 he was elected the founding President of a new association of churches called the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches. This association contains churches in most states of Australia with more being added each year. In 2009 he became a founding director of Geneva Push. He is married to Cathie and they have 4 grown children.

Joel & Hannah Hill

Joel & Hannah Hill will be MCing our day together. They have recently planted Manning Bible Church in Taree in NSW and have 5 kids.

Church Planting Workshops #1

In this first workshops session focused on church planting, there are a range of options for you to choose from:

How did I end up church planting? And how do I know if I’m cut out to be a planter?

Pier & Kathryn Francini and Adam Cheng

Church planting wasn’t always the plan. And we certainly haven’t always thought of ourselves as the church planting type. But bit by bit this is where God’s led us – to reach new people through new churches. Pier, Adam & Kathryn will talk you through how they moved from asking the question to planting churches in Queensland and Victoria, and what questions you need to be asking along the way.

Making my first hire (and other crucial decisions a planter needs to make)

Dave Sheath & Scott Sanders

One of the key decisions you’re going to make in your church plant is your first hire. What should you look for in a candidate? What role should they have? These are just some of the key questions and areas Dave & Scott will dig into for planters thinking about their first hire.

Church Planting & Family System

Duncan & Miriam Andrews

Nothing in churches happened in isolation – joy, success, conflict, growth, health – it’s all connected. For church planters who have much more influence in the early stages around the culture of a church, understanding how we impact these things, and how these things impact us, will assist us in planting healthy, evangelistic churches. Join Duncan & Miraim Andrews (church planters in South Australia) as they help you walk you through this important area.

Gathering of Church Planting Wives

Cathie Heard

Church Planting couples are a team – they plan and pray together about how to evangelise their church into existence. At Multiply this year the Geneva Planter Wives will be getting together for lunch and during workshops to talk about the opportunities and challenges specific to planter wives.

Church Planting Workshops #2

In this second workshops session focused on church planting, there are a range of options for you to choose from:

What we wish we knew before we planted…

Lee & Cathra Murray

Hindsight is 20-20. And in 2020, Lee & Cathra Murray who planted Establish Church at Cronulla in 2015 will reflect on what they got right, what they would have done differently. Whether you’ve just planted or thinking about planting, this workshop will help you consider what course corrections you might be able to make to stay Gospel-centred, with a healthy marriage and family, and continue to lead your church in reaching the lost.

Perseverant Planting: Powering on through the Highs and Lows

Jai & Jay-Ellen Wright

Join Jai and Jay-ellen as they share some of their journey and the lessons they have learnt in loving God and loving people.

Handling criticism of your husband

Ruth Sheath

It’s difficult when people criticize you, but it’s worse when they get after your husband. Sometimes church members don’t want to confront the pastor, but feel they can pass on their complaints via the pastor’s wife because she isn’t so intimidating. Ruth’s workshop will give you some strategies with handling criticism of your husband.

How do I keep evangelism on the boil / Maintaining Mission Heat

We all start out wanting to focus on evangelism of our local context. But over time, we can lose focus and mission heat can taper off. So how do you keep evangelism on the boil in your local church that makes a difference year-round so that we keep seeing new diciples of Christ.
