Multiply Session 1
This year we’re celebrating 10 years and 100 churches planted across the Geneva Push network. There’s lots to give thanks for in this, but we know as well that we’ve only just scratched the surface in seeing Australia reached with the Gospel. In the first session of Multiply 2020, we’re going to:
- Hear from Al Stewart about the state of the network and church planting across Australia as well as what’s next for Geneva Push.
- Meet our newly launched and newly launching church planters for 2019/20 and pray for them and the people they’re trying to reach.
- Hear from Andrew Heard on the strengths and challenges of what’s happening here in Australia in light of trends across the globe.
As we meet across the day, we’ll be praying for the next 150 church planting planters, couples and teams to be raised up in order to evangelise those churches into existence across Australia over the next 10 years.
Speakers:
Al Stewart

Al has been in Christian ministry for 30 years, including setting up congregations in Mt Druitt, the eastern suburbs of Sydney and the Wollongong region. Al was also involved in commencing the City Bible Forum with ECOM in 2001 and was the chairman of the Katoomba Christian Convention from 2005-2014. He also served as a bishop and the director of Evangelism Ministries with the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church. He is currently the National Director of FIEC. He is married to Kathy and they have 4 grown children.
Andrew Heard

Andrew has been involved in Christian ministry for over 25 years. In 1996, together with his wife Cathie established a new church on the Central Coast of NSW called Central Coast Evangelical Church (now EV Church). In 2005 he was elected the founding President of a new association of churches called the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches. This association contains churches in most states of Australia with more being added each year. In 2009 he became a founding director of Geneva Push. He is married to Cathie and they have 4 grown children.
Joel & Hannah Hill

Joel & Hannah Hill will be MCing our day together. They have recently planted Manning Bible Church in Taree in NSW and have 5 kids.
Church Planting Workshops #1
In this first workshops session focused on church planting, there are a range of options for you to choose from:
How did I end up church planting? And how do I know if I’m cut out to be a planter?
Pier & Kathryn Francini and Adam ChengChurch planting wasn’t always the plan. And we certainly haven’t always thought of ourselves as the church planting type. But bit by bit this is where God’s led us – to reach new people through new churches. Pier, Adam & Kathryn will talk you through how they moved from asking the question to planting churches in Queensland and Victoria, and what questions you need to be asking along the way.
Making my first hire (and other crucial decisions a planter needs to make)
Dave Sheath & Scott SandersOne of the key decisions you’re going to make in your church plant is your first hire. What should you look for in a candidate? What role should they have? These are just some of the key questions and areas Dave & Scott will dig into for planters thinking about their first hire.
Church Planting & Family System
Duncan & Miriam AndrewsNothing in churches happened in isolation – joy, success, conflict, growth, health – it’s all connected. For church planters who have much more influence in the early stages around the culture of a church, understanding how we impact these things, and how these things impact us, will assist us in planting healthy, evangelistic churches. Join Duncan & Miraim Andrews (church planters in South Australia) as they help you walk you through this important area.
Gathering of Church Planting Wives
Cathie HeardChurch Planting couples are a team – they plan and pray together about how to evangelise their church into existence. At Multiply this year the Geneva Planter Wives will be getting together for lunch and during workshops to talk about the opportunities and challenges specific to planter wives.
Church Planting Workshops #2
In this second workshops session focused on church planting, there are a range of options for you to choose from:
What we wish we knew before we planted…
Lee & Cathra MurrayHindsight is 20-20. And in 2020, Lee & Cathra Murray who planted Establish Church at Cronulla in 2015 will reflect on what they got right, what they would have done differently. Whether you’ve just planted or thinking about planting, this workshop will help you consider what course corrections you might be able to make to stay Gospel-centred, with a healthy marriage and family, and continue to lead your church in reaching the lost.
Perseverant Planting: Powering on through the Highs and Lows
Jai & Jay-Ellen WrightJoin Jai and Jay-ellen as they share some of their journey and the lessons they have learnt in loving God and loving people.
Handling criticism of your husband
Ruth SheathIt’s difficult when people criticize you, but it’s worse when they get after your husband. Sometimes church members don’t want to confront the pastor, but feel they can pass on their complaints via the pastor’s wife because she isn’t so intimidating. Ruth’s workshop will give you some strategies with handling criticism of your husband.
How do I keep evangelism on the boil / Maintaining Mission Heat
We all start out wanting to focus on evangelism of our local context. But over time, we can lose focus and mission heat can taper off. So how do you keep evangelism on the boil in your local church that makes a difference year-round so that we keep seeing new diciples of Christ.

Workshop: Leading Change (challenging the status quo)
Change… This six letter word can either create panic or elicit excitement. And both responses depend on how the change is presented, communicated and validated. Change in churches can be a difficult thing to sell. However, change is necessary for a church that is growing, thriving and making a difference in its community. In this workshop, Michael Lin (Founder of Oilstone) and Greg Lee (Senior Pastor at Hunter Bible Church) will get you thinking about: Why we need to change; Assessing the impact change will make; How to communicate change; and Leading change by example.
Speakers:
Michael Lin

Michael is a partner in Oilstone (equipping ministry leaders) and works as a director, business advisor and leadership coach. He has served in lay church leadership roles for over 30 years. He currently serves as a director of Geneva Push and is a former long standing board member of AFES and KCC. Michael’s professional career includes senior executive positions with Macquarie Bank and Lend Lease Group and running family companies. He has also been a Program Director for Mt Eliza Business School (now Melbourne Business School) and senior leadership development consultant for the Australian Institute of Management.

He lives in Sydney, is married to Natalie, has 4 beautiful daughters, and is a member of Vine Church + St Michaels in Sydney.
Workshop: Personal Evangelism & the Ecosystem
How do we mobilise everyone to be on mission, both personally and as groups? Where does personal evangelism fit in the church ecosystem? This workshop will explore how to capture everyone with the vision of the lost – setting a high bar on the expectation that every person will be captured by a vision of the lost and a desire to see this church ongoingly grow with newly converted people.

One thing led to the next, and Amy now works full time at Grace City and studies part time at SMBC. She is married to Jesse and in her free time you’ll usually finding her crocheting (or making jewellery or knitting or planting succulents!).

He is a pastor of Providence Church Midland in WA, is married to Jill and together they have two children, Sophie and Declan. Eugene will spend this workshop helping to develop a multiplying mindset for your church.
Speakers:
Eugene Hor

How do you move from rosters to teams? Team pastoring requires a significant shift and culture change for most churches. This workshop is more a case study – Matt Lehmann, Church Planter and Senior Pastor at Trinity Inner South in Adelaide shares the 24 month journey the church, staff team and he as leader went through to move from rosters to teams.
Speakers:

As a network they are working towards having the spiritual fitness to plant a church a year. God has really blessed Inner South in its first three years and they are prayerfully seeking to continually grow evangelistically sharper.
Workshop: Operations for a church plant
Geting a church started is hard work. One of the big questions faced by the church planter is ‘where do I start?’ Andrew Mitchell has extensive experience working with new churches to set up the ministry support structures and systems.
